Paul Chappell, a West Point graduate and former army captain, speaks about 鈥淲ill War Ever End?鈥 Thursday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in 蜜桃传媒鈥檚 Founders Dining Room. The free, public lecture, which is sponsored by 蜜桃传媒 Intercultural Programs, explores the possibility of achieving peace.
鈥淟ike most Americans, I grew up thinking that peace was a naive dream,鈥 Chappell says. 鈥淏ut I learned at West Point and in the military that peace is possible if we begin taking steps toward achieving it.鈥
In his talk Chappell will explain what waging peace means and how, in the nuclear age, waging peace is required to protect the planet and ensure the survival of humanity.
鈥淲e all can create positive change in the world, and now is the best time to begin,鈥
he says.
Chappell, who served in the army for seven years, was deployed to Baghdad and left
active duty in November 2009 as a captain. He has written 鈥淲ill War Ever End? A Soldier鈥檚
Vision of Peace for the 21st Century,鈥 鈥淭he End of War: How Waging Peace Can Save
Humanity, Our Planet, and Our Future鈥 and is working on his third book, 鈥淧eaceful
Revolution.鈥
Chappell, a Santa Barbara resident, serves as the peace leadership director for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (www.wagingpeace.org).
