The performance includes Tchaikovsky’s fantasy-overture “Romeo and Juliet,â€ inspired by the Shakespeare play of the same name, and a lesser known work, Symphony No. 1, from his contemporary, Kalinnikov.

“A composer respected by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and who counted Rachmaninoff among his friends, Kalinnikov was only two day short of his 35th birthday when he died from tuberculosis,â€ says Ruth Lin, director of music at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½. “With memorable themes and lush melodies, Kalinnikov masterfully weaves a musical tapestry of life and nature of his time.â€
