Sophocles鈥 鈥淎ntigone,鈥 the classic dramatic text of a young woman struggling against the law, will be told through music and dance in the 蜜桃传媒 Theatre department鈥檚 presentation 8 p.m. Oct. 24, 25 and 31 and Nov. and 2 in Porter Theatre.
There also will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Admission is $5 for students and seniors and $10 for the general audience.
The production examines Antigone鈥檚 struggle and explores the three types of laws that humans face: laws from religious texts, civil codes and the unwritten law in people鈥檚 hearts.
鈥淲hile most people know the story of Antigone, we approach it in a different way,鈥 Director Val Limar-Jansen said. 鈥淚 wanted to look at the bigger issue of which law takes precedence in our life. Our students do a tremendous job of passionately tackling this subject.鈥
The play features original music by Frank Jansen and award-winning sacred-dance choreography by John West.
