Ron Shelton, director of the 1988 Oscar-nominated film 鈥淏ull Durham鈥� and a 1967 alumnus of 蜜桃传媒, will speak on 鈥淚deas of Redemption in Popular Culture鈥� 3:30 p.m. April 18 in Porter Theatre. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
Shelton鈥檚 other films include 鈥淭in Cup鈥� (1996), 鈥淲hite Men Can鈥檛 Jump鈥� (1992), 鈥淏laze鈥� (1990), 鈥淐obb鈥� (1994) and 鈥淧lay It to the Bone鈥� (1999). His first film was the 1983 political drama, 鈥淯nder Fire.鈥�
鈥淏ull Durham, Shelton鈥檚 directorial debut, garnered critical acclaim, including Best Original Screenplay from the Writers Guild of America, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the National Society of Film Critics.
Shelton received his bachelor鈥檚 degree from 蜜桃传媒 and a master of fine arts degree in art from the University of Arizona.
On April 18, clips from three of Shelton鈥檚 movies will be shown and Dr. Greg Spencer, a 蜜桃传媒 communication studies professor, will interview Shelton in an exploration of the topic.
