The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Men's Polo Team won the U.S. Polo Association Western Regional Intercollegiate Tournament and will compete in the USPA Intercollegiate Polo Championships at Cornell University in New York on April 18-23. The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Men’s Polo Team defeated Stanford 18-4 on April 2.
ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ won the Western Regionals three years in a row from 2007-2009 and nearly won a national championship in 2007, losing 12-8 to Texas A&M in the finals.
This year’s team is headed by junior Wiley Uretz and first-year student Patrick Uretz of Malibu, first-year student David Samaniego of Rancho Santa Fe and first-year student Jacob Kimsey of Colorado Springs.
John Westley, owner of the Santa Barbara Polo School, coaches the team.
Polo became a club sport on campus 10 years ago, but students were unable to field a team until five years ago. The team practices with Westley at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club and plays games on weekends, riding horses on loan from the Santa Barbara Youth Polo Association.
